Notes

In June 2011 Tangerine Dream had participated in the Starmus Festival on Tenerife island and performed a one-off concert with guest appearances of famous guitar player Brian May. Fans had to wait almost two years until the concert was made available on CD -- most probably due to the fact that more parties were involved than for a regular album featuring solely Tangerine Dream.

On two discs the album presents the complete concert (including some speeches) featuring a unique selection of music. Besides live recordings of well-known TD material (mostly from more recent years) there are two new TD tracks (Supernova and Janus Parade) that are otherwise unreleased yet, two compositions by Brian May performed live together with TD, and a live arrangement of the famous Soviet Russian-language song Tenderness, sung by Iris Camaa.

The album comes with a 24-page booklet including various photos taken before, during and after the gig.

The Eastgate Music Shop about the CD release"After a long wait we are proud to announce the eagerly-awaited CD production of Starmus - Sonic Universe, a release of the sensational musical collaboration between two legendary names: Brian May and Tangerine Dream. Brian May had been for decades the great guitar player, arranger and co-singer with one of the greatest rock bands of all time: Queen. Tangerine Dream came from a complete different angle of the musical world.
Being the first band ever using Moog sequencer rhythm live on stage, being called the early masterminds of ambient sound and highly acclaimed Hollywood film composers for many years, Tangerine Dream have set more than one landmark in musical history. Now here is the result of a very unusual concert of the two legends at the Starmus Festival on the Island of Tenerife. In June 2011 this festival was held in the honor of the 50th Anniversary of Juri Gagarin's first space flight. Among the guests you could witness Neil Armstrong (first man on the moon) in one of his last public appearances and Buzz Aldrin (second man on the moon), Alexei Leonow (first man stepping out of his capsule into space), Jim Lovell and many more. The first track of the CD, Supernova, integrates original, real star sounds -- something very special. Prof. Garik Israelian, astrophysicist and founder of the Starmus Festival captured these unique sounds. Can you imagine how the sun sounds in space? Get an idea of this sound when listening to Supernova. Enjoy with this release the highlights of TD's musical career in combination with Brian May's unique guitar."

Only a few days after its CD release this album became available as MP3 download at the Tangerine Dream Download Shop as well.

The DVD version of this album took more than five years to be finally released in September 2016. The double-layer DVD comes in a standard DVD case with a 20-page booklet, including the track listing, credits and numerous large photos from the concert. The DVD menu provides the options to play the complete concert as well as to start from individual tracks, to view the credits, and to do the audio setup (Stereo 2.0 or Dolby Surround 5.1). The track order of the DVD version is slightly different compared to the CD release but overall contains the same music plus a bonus video feature, showing the band and crew on Tenerife and during the concert preparations.
