Notes

This album is the fifth of the so-called 'Vault' series by Tangerine Dream, featuring unaltered remastered original Tangerine Dream concerts. The series includes the following albums:

  • Rockface (Recorded 1988, released 2003)
  • East (Recorded 1990, released 2004)
  • Arizona Live (Recorded 1992, released 2004)
  • Vault IV (Recorded 1986, released 2005)
  • Rocking Mars (Recorded 1999, released 2005)

In June 1999, Tangerine Dream performed a one-off concert during the Klangart Festival in Osnabrück in Northern Germany, presenting the then brand-new album Mars Polaris. The complete album was performed, though the track order differs from that on the album. The music performed is essentially identical to the studio versions, with some additional guitar and percussion work. Some older compositions were included in the main set and the encores (which are unfortunately missing on this album release).

An audience recording of the very same concert had previously been unofficially released by TD fans as Tangerine Tree Volume 43: Osnabrück 1999, including the encores.

The Rocking Mars Zoom-O-Graphic

The front cover artwork is loosely based on a Zoom-O-Graphic by Edgar Froese, titled Heart And Head.

Copies sold in the UK have been found with an additional barcode sticker showing the TDP number listed below.

In March 2009 the album was re-released with different cover design as part of an extensive digipack series (consisting of a total of more than 60 CD and DVD releases) by the Germany based Membran record label.
